THE GRAND PRIX of German Conference Hotels 2015

The eagerly awaited presentation of this year’s rankings took place on April 23 in the festive BallhausForum of the Dolce Munich Unterschleissheim. Thomas Karsch, Managing Director of the trade publishing house and Editor-in-Chief of the trade magazine Top Hotel, welcomed the invited guests. In mid-December 2014, 15,699 numbered ballots for the Grand Prix were sent out via email and post.

Those eligible to participate (conference decision-makers, educators, trainers, and HR developers) had the opportunity to nominate up to ten hotels from the listed “Selected Conference Hotels for Well-being,” similar to the “Eurovision Song Contest” format. With 4,180 valid ballots returned, the response rate was 26.9 percent.

2nd place in Category C – best conference venues went to ARCADEON in Hagen, which has now made it into the top 10 for the 7th time. Managing Director Jörg Bachmann accepted the award (a trophy from the company Schott Zwiesel) together with his wife and was delighted with this recognition: “We would like to thank our customers, who constantly inspire us to develop new ideas, and of course our employees, who implement these ideas together with us.”

Being among the best establishments in Germany is not only a great success for us but also an incentive to continue on this path. “But first, we are organizing a big thank-you party for our team.”

THE STORY behind it
The Grand Prix of the Conference Hotel Industry is one of the most important industry awards of the year: it has been presented for 20 years now and is considered the most significant quality benchmark in the German conference market. The competition is based on the book “Selected Conference Hotels for Well-being” and the online platform Meintophotel.de. Anyone wishing to join the ranks of the “Selected” must apply and undergo a multi-stage selection process, which, if successful, leads to a visit by an author.

The author verifies the well-being criteria on-site and makes the final decision on admission. If deficiencies are found, the candidate is rejected. In 2015, 175 hotels were able to meet the well-being criteria. A total of 14 experienced specialist authors were involved, whose task is not only to verify the well-being criteria but also to provide a journalistic description of the visited properties.
