Concept & philosophy
Not an ordinary conference hotel, but a place of inspiration for science and continuing education.
ARCADEON is a place of focus and inspiration.
The building’s exceptional architecture, inspired by the construction style of medieval monasteries, encourages progressive thinking and creates space for new ideas.
Concept
ARCADEON was conceived as a modern seminar and conference hotel. In a project unique in Germany, business, academia and politics joined forces in a private-public partnership to realise the ambitious construction project in 1998. In addition to the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, the City of Hagen and the FernUniversität in Hagen, companies based in the region also support the project with great commitment. These are: Let`s Go JMK KG, Wilhelm Wippermann AG and Dr Sigurd Pütter. Even today, we continue to develop this idea together—constantly, with ever new spaces and impulses for successful events, seminars and conferences.
Atmosphere
in the centre for science
To live up to our own standards and provide a perfect environment for new ways of thinking, ARCADEON radiates a very special, highly harmonious atmosphere that quickly transfers to its guests.
The light-filled building, surrounded by a beautiful park with an idyllic pond, offers not only many places for communication but also opportunities to retreat and relax.
Ambience
Art and design
The artistic ambience of the house, with its unique new design created by Jörg and Claudia Bachmann in collaboration with designer Emell Gök Che, has an invigorating and inspiring effect.
Two famous personalities from the city of Hagen also serve as namesakes for the restaurant and hotel bar: Emils Bar & Lounge is named after the renowned Hagen painter Emil Schumacher, who played a decisive role in shaping the art of the second half of the 20th century.
Dedicated to art patron Karl Ernst Osthaus is the hotel restaurant KARLs—the impressive picture installation behind the new oak-wood buffet shows a collage of his Hagen residence, the Art Nouveau Villa Hohenhof.
The ARCADEON building was designed by two architecture students from Dortmund University of Applied Sciences who took part in the ideas competition for the construction of the conference hotel, announced by the Society of Friends of the FernUniversität.
