Berlin, February 2026 – With DIN standard 33463 “Conference packages”, a uniform framework is now available for the first time, defining minimum requirements for conference packages. The aim of the standard is to make offers from different hotels and conference venues more comparable and transparent, thereby simplifying procurement processes.
Why the standard is important
In practice, conference packages vary widely. As a result, price and scope of services are often difficult for customers to compare. DIN standard 33463 addresses this and clearly describes which services must at least be included in a conference package. This is intended to simplify the quotation process for providers and customers alike.
“With DIN 33463, we are creating a clear basis for what a conference package must deliver at a minimum. This makes it easier for hotels to design their offers and gives event organizers in the meetings industry greater transparency and comparability. The standard is the result of broad collaboration between practitioners and associations.”
Alexander Wurster, Working Group Chair (DIN WG “Conference hotels and services”)
What DIN 33463 defines (excerpt)
Among other things, the standard defines principles for the design of a conference package, including the minimum scope of services in the areas of service, catering, and room preparation.
Benefits for hotels and the MICE market
For hotels, conference venues, and all stakeholders in the events sector, DIN 33463 offers in particular:
- Greater transparency for customers and planners through clear minimum standards
- Better comparability of offers in tenders and framework agreements
- Fewer follow-up questions in sales, because service components are clearly described
- Planning reliability for organizers through defined base packages
Development and participants
The initiative for the DIN conference package originated from the cooperation of the Exzellenten Lernorte. We were delighted that our Head of Marketing and Sales, Claudia Bachmann, was able to be part of this expert group and actively help shape the standard. In the responsible working group NA 159-02-01-01 WG “Conference hotels and services”, the standard was developed over two years. Experts from the German Hotel Association (IHA), the Maritim Hotelgesellschaft, and HSMA were also involved.
