World Café
Topic Tables with Rotating Groups
In large groups, genuine exchange on professional topics often fails to gain momentum or is dominated by individual speakers.
To counteract this, the World Café method relies on small group conversations at separate table stations, where 4 to 6 participants gather with a host.
- At the beginning, a moderator explains the process, introduces a central topic, and provides different questions for the individual tables.
- These questions are discussed at the assigned tables for 15 to 30 minutes.
- Subsequently, the participants rotate and discuss the questions at the table stations again, with the host remaining seated and summarizing what has already been discussed at the table for the new group.
- In this way, each question is discussed with multiple groups, resulting in a multifaceted perspective on it.
- Finally, the hosts of the individual tables present the key findings on their question to the plenary.
