Westphalian open-air museum Hagen

The LWL-open-air museum Hagen brings a piece of industrial history into the present ! On the approx. 42 hectar area the workshops and tools of urban and rural crafts are not only exhibited but also produced in more than twenty of the sixty rebuilt and reconstructed workshops. Interested visitors can watch the manufacturing process, ask questions and even take part in the production process.

The open-air museum Hagen founded in 1960 opened its gates in 1973 to the general public. In comparison to many other open-air museums which show the rural everyday life of the past. The main aim of the open-air museum based in Hagen is to put the history of crafts and technology in Westphalia into the foreground.

The Mäckingerbachtal provides the perfect conditions: Wind, water and wood the three most important, locational natural factors.
