Emil Schumacher museum Hagen

On the 28th of August 2009, the Emil Schumacher Museum in Hagen opened its doors. The museum is dedicated to the life’s work of the artist Emil Schumacher from Hagen. Schumacher is one of the most influential representatives of abstract art in the second half of the 20th century. On three floors, his paintings, works on paper, ceramics and porcelain will be shown in alternating exhibits. The museum collection owns over 500 works from all creative periods of the artist’s life. They have been donated by the foundation of his son, Ulrich Schumacher.

Emil Schumacher`s vision of painting accompanied him continually over many years. The paintings of the Hagen born artist appear as fields of living energy, colourful and exciting and on the other hand full of gestures and expressions.
